Channel Catfish (Ictalurus punctatus)


Channel catfishDescription: Channel catfish are similar in shape but much larger than a bullhead. It has a long, tapered body with a large head and barbells (whiskers) on the chin, black back shading to silver-grey on the sides, scale-less skin, and a deeply forked tail.

Habitat: It is found close to shore in spring, but seek clearer, cooler waters in mid-river or below dams and rapids in summer.
