FLOOD WARNING: Ottawa River – Arnprior to Hawkesbury – Update #9

Weather Forecast: Rainfall amounts of 20 to 50 mm are possible Thursday morning into Friday as a large low-pressure system moves into the area Thursday, May 9, 2019.

Environmental Conditions: Ottawa River water levels are currently decreasing. Forecasted rainfall could cause levels to increase again but are not expected to exceed initial peeks observed last week. Locations from Point Gatineau down to the Grenville/Hawkesbury area could see water levels stop decreasing depending on precipitation received.

Weather Forecast:
Rainfall of 10 to 20 mm is forecasted today, May 3. An additional 5 mm of rain is possible on Monday, May 6, 2019.

Environmental Conditions:
Water levels along the lower Ottawa River have peaked and are expected to remain stable and slowly decline over the next few days.

Risks:
All flood-prone areas along the Ottawa River from Lac Coulonge down to the Montreal Archipelago are at risk as snowmelt continues along the upper Ottawa River.

Weather Forecast:
Rainfall of 15 to 35 mm is expected today, May 1, 2019 in the Ottawa River basin.

Environmental Conditions:
Water levels along the lower Ottawa River are increasing due to spring runoff upstream in the Ottawa River basin. Runoff from snowmelt, precipitation and saturated soil has swollen most of the Ottawa River’s tributaries.

Risks:
All flood-prone areas along the Ottawa River from Lac Coulonge to the Montreal Archipelago are at risk.

Flood Watch: Saint Lawrence River – Update #1

Weather Forecast:
Rainfall of 15 to 35 mm is forecasted for today, May 1, 2019.

Environmental Conditions:
Lake Ontario’s levels are increasing due to significant precipitation, reduced outflows, high inflows from Lake Erie, and spring runoff.

Water levels between the Iroquois Dam and Moses-Saunders Dam in Cornwall have been increasing due to reduced outflows at the Moses-Saunders Dam. Gates at Iroquois were lowered to supress water levels and keep them below flood values in the area.

WATERSHED CONDITIONS: Flood Outlook Statement South Nation Watershed – Update #1

This statement is an update to the Flood Outlook statement issued April 24, 2019.

Weather Forecast:
Rainfall of 15 to 35 mm is forecasted for today, May 1, 2019.

Environmental Conditions:
Since April 24, SNC rain gauges have recorded approximately 10 to 20 mm of rain.

Soil across the jurisdiction is saturated, and there is no snowpack remaining.

Water levels across the watershed have decreased and are returning to normal ranges. Levels in some parts of the jurisdiction remain above average for this time of year.

Conserving What We Value: Protecting People and Planting Trees

South Nation Conservation (SNC) works with 16 member municipalities in Eastern Ontario to deliver local environmental programs and service that improve water resources.

SNC maintains 20,000 acres of community forests and plants over 120,000 trees every spring.

Greely Gets a Clean-up at the 10th Annual South Nation Cache-In-Trash-Out!

Every spring, enthusiastic volunteers participate in South Nation Conservation’s (SNC) annual Cache-In-Trash-Out (CITO) community clean-up event. Hosted in partnership with the Geocachers of Eastern Ontario, nearly 70 volunteers worked together to clean-up pre-selected sites across the town of Greely in the City of Ottawa on April 27, 2019, collecting over 45 bags of garbage and recycling. Notable finds included an old car bumper, a metro news bin, and a barbeque.

Environmental Conditions:
Water levels along the lower Ottawa River are increasing due to spring runoff upstream in the Ottawa River basin.

Runoff from snowmelt, precipitation and saturated soil has swollen most of the Ottawa River’s tributaries.

South Nation Conservation (SNC) has upgraded the Flood Outlook Statement issued on April 24, 2019 to a Flood Watch for the Saint Lawrence River.

Weather Forecast:
Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting up to 5 mm of rain today. An additional 20 to 30 mm of rain is expected Wednesday into Thursday, May 2, 2019.
