Greely Gets a Clean-up at the 10th Annual South Nation Cache-In-Trash-Out!

Every spring, enthusiastic volunteers participate in South Nation Conservation’s (SNC) annual Cache-In-Trash-Out (CITO) community clean-up event. Hosted in partnership with the Geocachers of Eastern Ontario, nearly 70 volunteers worked together to clean-up pre-selected sites across the town of Greely in the City of Ottawa on April 27, 2019, collecting over 45 bags of garbage and recycling. Notable finds included an old car bumper, a metro news bin, and a barbeque.

FLOOD WARNING: Ottawa River – Arnprior to Hawkesbury – Update #6

Weather Forecast:
Rainfall of 20 to 40 mm is forecasted Wednesday into Thursday, May 2. An additional 10 to 20 mm of rain is possible on Friday, May 3, 2019.

Environmental Conditions:
Water levels along the lower Ottawa River are increasing due to spring runoff upstream in the Ottawa River basin.

Runoff from snowmelt, precipitation and saturated soil has swollen most of the Ottawa River’s tributaries.

Flood Watch: Saint Lawrence River

South Nation Conservation (SNC) has upgraded the Flood Outlook Statement issued on April 24, 2019 to a Flood Watch for the Saint Lawrence River.

Weather Forecast:
Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting up to 5 mm of rain today. An additional 20 to 30 mm of rain is expected Wednesday into Thursday, May 2, 2019.

FLOOD WARNING: Ottawa River – Arnprior to Hawkesbury – Update #4

Weather Forecast:
Significant rainfall has fallen over the Ottawa River basin since Thursday, April 18, 2019. Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting rainfall of 25 to 40 mm starting Friday, April 25, and an additional 5-10 mm Saturday through to Sunday, April 28.

Environmental Conditions:
Flows and levels on the Ottawa River continue to rise due to runoff caused by precipitation, saturated soil and snowmelt over the central part of the basin.

Flood Outlook Statement: Saint Lawrence River - Update #1

This statement is an update to the Flood Outlook statement issued April 18th, 2019

Weather Forecast:
Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting rainfall of 15 to 20 mm this Friday, and an additional 5 to 10 mm Saturday through Sunday, April 28.

Environmental Conditions:
According to the International Lake Ontario – St. Lawrence River Board (ILOSRB) water levels upstream of the Iroquois area are rising as Lake Ontario’s level rose last weekend.

WATERSHED CONDITIONS: Flood Outlook Statement – South Nation Watershed

South Nation Conservation (SNC) has ended the Flood Watch issued on April 17, 2019, for the South Nation River and its tributaries.

Weather Forecast:
Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting rainfall of 15 to 20 mm this Friday, and an additional 5 to 10 mm Saturday through Sunday, April 28.

Environmental Conditions:
Since issuing the last statement on April 17, SNC rain gauges have recorded 20 to 35 mm of rain. Soil across the jurisdiction is saturated, and there is minimal to no snowpack remaining.

FLOOD WARNING: Ottawa River – Arnprior to L’Orignal – Update #3

Weather Forecast:
Significant rainfall has fallen over the Ottawa River basin since Thursday, April 18, 2019.

Warmer than forecasted temperatures were received Sunday and Monday. Additional rainfall of 15 to 50 mm is anticipated today and tomorrow in northern and central areas of the Ottawa River basin.

Weather Forecast:
Significant rainfall has fallen over the Ottawa River basin since Thursday, April 18, 2019. Cooler than forecasted temperatures and less precipitation was received yesterday, with only 6 mm of rain received in the Ottawa area. Some rain is forecasted later in the week in the northern portion of the Ottawa River basin which may impact flows.
