SNC Board Elects New Executive

Members appointed by South Nation Conservation‘s (SNC) 16-member municipalities were confirmed at the Authority’s Annual General Meeting on Thursday, March 15, 2018.

A new executive team was elected after Francois St-Amour, Mayor of Nation Municipality and Warden of the United Counties of Prescott-Russell did not seek re-election as Chair.

SNC Accepting Applications for Community Environmental Grants Program

Are you planning an environmental or recreational event for your community? South Nation Conservation (SNC) is now accepting applications for their Community Environmental Grants Program!

Non-profit groups are encouraged to apply to receive a grant of up to $300 to help offset the costs of their event or activity. The program has four grant categories: River, Heritage, Agri-Environmental and Community Outreach.

SNC to Redevelop Popular Maple Program

Since 2000, SNC has proudly hosted a Maple Education Program during syrup season, welcoming 1,000 regional students annually. In recent years, Sand Road Maple Farm was purchased by SNC employee Angela Coleman and her husband Scott.

Once Coleman was named SNC’s General Manager, to avoid any actual or perceived conflicts of interest, a decision was made to redevelop SNC’s program.

A significant weather system is forecasted to cross the province over the weekend and into next week. Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting 20-40 mm of rain starting Monday, February 19th through Wednesday, February 21st. In addition, above freezing temperatures are forecasted starting Sunday, February 18th.

Septic Service Providers Invited to Information Session

Save the date! South Nation Conservation (SNC) invites septic system designers, installers and contractors to attend its Annual Septic Meeting on March 29, 2018.

“This year’s session will feature discussions on new changes to the Ontario Building Code (OBC), general inspection procedures, permit applications, and will provide the opportunity for participants to share expertise and experiences,” said Monique Sauve, SNC’s Lead Inspector – Part VIII – OBC – Septic Systems.

SNC Releases Video to Reflect on the St. Lawrence River Student Summit

A first in Eastern Ontario - South Nation Conservation (SNC) hosted a 3-day student conference last October, bringing students together to learn more about growing environmental challenges.

The St. Lawrence River Student Summit, the first of its kind, brought nearly 100 high school students together to learn about their local environment, get hands-on experience of local issues and unite to come up with potential solutions to problems like the lack of proper treed habitat along watercourses.

SNC’s Woodlot Advisory Service Now Offered in the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry

South Nation Conservation (SNC) works with municipalities, partner organizations, and woodlot owners to promote the sustainable management of local forest cover across its 4,384 km2 jurisdiction.

 Since 2009, SNC has worked with partners like Ontario Power Generation to offer free site visits and advice to property owners interested in learning more about their woodlots.

WATERSHED CONDITIONS: WATER SAFETY STATEMENT

South Nation Conservation cautions that watercourses are expected to rise over the next week due to above-freezing temperatures and rainfall.

Environment and Climate Change Canada forecasts 5 to 15 mm of freezing rain throughout the region on Monday night and Tuesday morning. Freezing temperatures are forecasted early Tuesday morning and will rise throughout the day.
