South Nation Conservation (SNC) on behalf of Forests Ontario, is delivering a habitat restoration program, through the Grassland Stewardship Initiative, in partnership with ALUS Ontario East, a community-developed and farmer-delivered program that produces, enhances, and maintains ecosystem services on agricultural lands within the Raisin Region and South Nation Conservation Authorities’ watersheds in Eastern Ontario.

Are you a landowner with at least 10 acres of woodlot property?

Thanks to support from the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) and Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SDG), South Nation Conservation (SNC) offers its Woodlot Advisory Service (WAS) to residents who own at least 10 acres of forest. 

The Raisin-South Nation Source Protection Committee has announced that retired farmer and active community member, Ray Beauregard, was recently re-appointed by the Ontario Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks for this important role under Ontario’s Clean Water Act, 2006.

In a bid to address the housing supply, the Ontario government released a series of proposed legislative changes, many of which impact Ontario’s 36 Conservation Authorities.

South Nation Conservation’s (SNC) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Carl Bickerdike as the new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), effective October 24, 2022.

“We’re very pleased to have Carl take on the role of CAO at SNC, following the departure of Angela Coleman who now leads Conservation Ontario,” said Pierre Leroux, Chair of SNC’s Board of Directors.

Nearly 100 golfers and local sponsors helped South Nation Conservation (SNC) raise over $4,000 at its annual Friends of SNC Golf Tournament on September 9 at the Casselview Golf and Country Club in Casselman.

Proceeds will support the Authority’s popular Free Tree Pick Up program next spring which helps hand out 10,000 free trees to residents in each of SNC’s 16 member municipalities in Eastern Ontario.

South Nation Conservation’s (SNC) popular summer program saw over 100 youth baiting a hook at Youth Fish Camps held this summer for its 13^th season.

“These popular camps deliver an invaluable outdoor learning experience for youth and help familiarize young people with the natural environment through responsible and sustainable fishing,” explains Kelsey Smith, SNC’s Stewardship and Outreach Assistant.

From the headwaters near Brockville to where it empties into the Ottawa River near Plantagenet, the South Nation River offers endless summer recreational opportunities for the whole family on its 175 km waterway
in Eastern Ontario.

“With pandemic event restrictions lifted, we’re excited to fully welcome back and support all the great activities available in and around the South Nation River this summer,” explained John Mesman, South Nation Conservation’s (SNC) Community Lands and Outreach Lead.
