This statement is an update to the Flood Watch Statement issued April 6^th, 2023.

Weather Forecast: No additional precipitation is forecasted in the next 3 days and temperatures are forecasted to remain high, with overnight temperatures above zero.

Environmental Conditions: Water levels and flows are highacross the jurisdiction due to significant precipitation received last week, combined with snow and ice melt associated with the spring freshet.

A Flood Outlook Statement is being issued for areas along the Lower Ottawa River (Arnprior to Hawkesbury).

Based on forecasted higher temperatures and anticipated snow melt, levels and flows along the Ottawa River are expected to increase over the next few days, marking the beginning of the spring freshet in the Ottawa River basin.

Snow cover varies significantly across the 146,300 km² Ottawa River basin, with several areas experiencing above average snow water content.

This statement is an update to the Water Safety Statement issued March 28^th, 2023.

Weather Forecast: Environment Canada is forecasting ice accumulation up to 40 mm and rain up to 60 mm across the jurisdiction starting Wednesday morning and continuing into Thursday. Daytime temperatures are forecasted to be above freezing contributing to snow and ice melt.

Environmental Conditions: Water levels and flows are highacross the jurisdiction due to precipitation received over the past weekend, combined with snow melt.

Weather Forecast: Environment Canada is forecasting 20 to 30mm of rain across the jurisdiction starting Friday and continuing into Saturday. Daytime temperatures are forecasted to be above freezing on Saturday contributing to snow and ice melt.

Environmental Conditions: Precipitation and snowmelt will increase water levels and flows in rivers, potentially causing nuisance flooding in low-lying areas.

Weather Forecast: Environment Canada is forecasting up to 10 mm of rain across the jurisdiction, with above freezing temperatures today, contributing to snow and ice melt.

Temperatures will lower over the weekend, but daytime temperatures will remain above zero next week, further contributing to snow and ice melt.

Environmental Conditions: Precipitation and snowmelt will increase water levels and flows in rivers, potentially causing nuisance flooding in low-lying areas. Unstable ice conditions may also be present in systems.

South Nation Conservation (SNC) invites residents to attend an in-person Open House to learn more about floodplain and erosion hazard maps for areas along the Ottawa River, East of the City of Ottawa, within the City of Clarence-Rockland and the Township of Alfred-Plantagenet.

Residents living near or along the river will be able to view property-specific maps to help better understand the risks to life and property in these areas and provide feedback on the mapping. 

South Nation Conservation (SNC) is reminding residents that although we are currently in the middle of winter, everyone should remain cautious when venturing out near lakes, rivers and riverbanks.

Due to the mild temperatures this winter, ice conditions in the watershed have not yet been safe for recreational activities. The Conservation Authority notes that ice formation on the South Nation River has been sporadic and most spots are not yet thick enough for use.

Weather Forecast: Environment Canada is forecasting a significant weather system that is expected to pass through the region beginning Thursday afternoon until Friday morning.

The current forecast estimates total precipitation amounts of up to 35 mm in some areas,with much of the rain occurring Thursday afternoon before tapering off early Friday morning. A risk of freezing rain is also a possibility. Temperatures are forecasted to be above freezing Thursday and Friday contributing to snow and ice melt.  

South Nation Conservation (SNC) is planning the extension of Ottawa’s Findlay Creek Boardwalk within the Leitrim Wetland, thanks in part to a $750,000 investment from the Government of Canada through Canada’s Community Revitalization Fund.
