Water Conditions Statement: Flood Outlook — Lower Ottawa River

A Flood Outlook Statement is being issued for areas along the Lower Ottawa River (Arnprior to Hawkesbury). Based on forecasted precipitation and anticipated snow melt, levels and flows along the Ottawa River are expected to increase over the next few days as a result of the onset of the spring freshet in the Ottawa River basin.

WATERSHED CONDITIONS: WATER SAFETY STATEMENT

Weather Forecast:

Environment Canada is forecasting rain starting late Wednesday, totaling up to 20 mm by Friday, April 1st in areas across the SNC jurisdiction. 

Environmental Conditions:

Most of the snow and ice has melted across the jurisdiction. Although recent flooding has subsided, water levels and flows are elevated from recent precipitation and snowmelt. Intense periods of rainfall could lead to slippery conditions and rapid increases in water levels and flows.

WATERSHED CONDITIONS: FLOOD WATCH

Weather Forecast:

Environment Canada is forecasting mild temperatures throughout the week, reaching daytime temperatures of 8 oC, and the potential for significant periods of rain towards the end of the week and into the weekend totaling up to 40 mm by Saturday, March 26th

As a result of updated rainfall amounts in the forecast, and the potential for increased water levels, South Nation Conservation (SNC) is upgrading from a FLOOD OUTLOOK to a FLOOD WATCH.

SNC Hosting Information Session for New Natural Hazard Mapping along the Bear Brook in the City of Ottawa

South Nation Conservation (SNC) invites residents to attend an online public information session to learn more about new floodplain and erosion hazard maps for areas along Bear Brook in the City of Ottawa. 

The virtual session will take place on Thursday, March 31st from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM and can be accessed by visiting www.nation.on.ca/consultations

WATERSHED CONDITIONS: FLOOD OUTLOOK

Weather Forecast:

Environment Canada is forecasting milder temperatures through the week, reaching daytime highs of 8 to 15 oC, and rainfall over the weekend totaling up to 50 mm by late Sunday, March 20th

Environmental Conditions:

Runoff is expected due to warmer temperatures, melting snow, and forecasted rainfall. This will lead to increased water levels and flows across the SNC jurisdiction. Ice breakup is also expected.
