South Nation Conservation (SNC) is once again hosting an online fundraising auction this fall to support spring tree planting initiatives across its 4,441 km² jurisdiction in Eastern Ontario. 

Building on the success of last year’s “Art for Trees” auction which raised $6,500 for the Authority's 2021 planting season, “South Nation Wood Creations” will feature dozens of wood ware products such as furniture, displays, art, signs, and charcuterie boards, hand-crafted by talented artisans from across the region. 

September 30, 2021, marks the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, an important day for our Indigenous partners, locally and across the country. It also serves as a day of reflection, so that people can recognize the harmful legacy of the residential school system in Canada and collectively make the journey towards healing. 

South Nation Conservation (SNC) is undertaking a 5-year grassland bird habitat enhancement and hayfield rejuvenation project in the Township of Edwardsburgh Cardinal. The project is intended to promote the recovery of the Bobolink and Eastern Meadowlark in Eastern Ontario, two birds that are species at risk in Ontario.

Environment Canada is forecasting rainfall amounts of 40 to 60 mm by early Friday morning.

Environmental Conditions:

The South Nation River Watershed is currently experiencing a minor drought (Level 1 – Low Water Condition), with river flows that are below normal for this time of year. Water flows are expected to increase over the coming days with the forecasted rainfall.

As the hot, humid days give way to cool, crisp mornings, the transition from summer to fall signals the start of an exciting time of year for more than 425,000 Ontario residents - hunting season! 

South Nation Conservation (SNC), which owns and manages over 13,000 acres of community forests, wetlands, and grasslands across its 4,441 square-kilometre watershed jurisdiction in Eastern Ontario, recognizes that hunting is a time-honoured tradition for many local residents and is pleased to offer over 8,500 acres of accessible land for hunting with permission from SNC. 

South Nation Conservation’s (SNC) Water Response Team voted to reinstate the Level 1 Low Water Advisory across the South Nation River watershed on September 9th, 2021, due to sporadic rainfall and low river flows.

South Nation Conservation (SNC) is pleased to welcome visitors to its newest property, now open for day-use! Mill Run Conservation Area is a 9-acre property on McCrea Road recently donated by Augusta Township to SNC and developed in part thanks to funding received by the Federal Government. 

After a record breaking 2021 planting season with more than 230,000 trees in the ground across its 4,441 square-kilometre watershed jurisdiction in Eastern Ontario, South Nation Conservation (SNC) is calling out to property owners to start planning for their spring 2022 tree planting projects! 

SNC is currently booking site visits and accepting orders for locally sourced native trees and shrubs offered at reduced rates through a variety of planting programs administered by the Conservation Authority. 

South Nation Conservation (SNC) welcomed six students and recent graduates to its team this summer, thanks to funding from the Federal and Provincial Governments.
