This is an update to the Flood Watch statement issued by South Nation Conservation (SNC) for the St. Lawrence River on May 15, 2020.

Weather Forecast:
General rainfall up to 5 to 10 mm with a chance of moderate thunderstorms are in the forecast for Eastern Ontario starting Friday, May 29^th into Saturday, May 30^th. More rainfall is expected later next week.

Eager anglers and boaters from across South Nation Conservation’s (SNC) 4,441 square-kilometer jurisdiction in Eastern Ontario can (safely) rejoice.

Following the provincial announcement last week and direction from the Eastern Ontario Health Unit, SNC has re-opened public boat launches, river access points and select Conservation Areas, with certain COVID-19 precautions in place.

The following Conservation Areas and municipal partner sites for river access and boat launching are all open as of May 19^th:

Weather Forecast:
General rainfall of up to 20 to 30 mm with a chance of moderate thunderstorms are in the forecast for Eastern Ontario starting Sunday, May 17^th into Monday, May 18^th.

South Nation Conservation (SNC) donated 500 tree seedlings to the Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) and Dundas Manor Nursing Home today to be distributed to nurses for National Nursing Week.

Donated White Spruce and Balsam Fir seedlings were leftover stock from the Conservation Authority’s spring planting programs. SNC partnered with the WDMH Foundation to find them a new home with the local nursing staff in North Dundas.

Last year Ontario announced May 12^th, 2020, as the Official Day of Action on Litter to bring clean-up activities to schools, neighbourhoods and municipalities across the province, and with the last bit of snow finally gone, a winter’s worth of garbage accumulation is now revealed and ready to be picked up.

South Nation Conservation’s (SNC) environmental services that protect help people and property from natural hazards (such as flooding), support sustainable development activities, and protect water quality are now available to the entire municipality of Clarence-Rockland and its residents along the Ottawa River.

The expansion was unanimously approved by SNC’s municipally-appointed Board of Directors at the request of Clarence-Rockland’s Municipal Council, who voted in support of joining the Conservation Authority’s jurisdiction in February.

Weather Forecast:
Scattered showers are possible across Eastern Ontario this weekend, but no significant rainfall is currently in the forecast.

Beginning May 7^th, South Nation Conservation (SNC) will be live streaming family-friendly educational videos on Facebook every Thursday at 1:00 pm as part of a new series called Nature at Home.

The weekly videos streamed over Facebook Live will see the Conservation Authority bring its environmental outreach offerings onto smartphones and in living rooms across Eastern Ontario as people continue to stay home due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Weather Forecast:
Active weather is possible later next week across Eastern Ontario, but no significant rainfall is in the forecast for this weekend.

The Flood Watch issued on April 9, 2020 is being TERMINATED. A Water Safety Statement is in effect as all areas are experiencing high spring flows which are typical for this time of year.

The Ottawa River Regulation Committee has indicated that levels are decreasing along the main stem of the Ottawa River from Pembroke down to the Montreal region as runoff from melting snow in tributaries decreases. It is expected that levels will continue decreasing to normal spring freshet levels as no major precipitation is forecasted over the next few days.
