Weather Forecast:
Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing for most of the week.  

Environmental Conditions:
The watershed continues to experience higher than normal water levels. Based on current forecasts, levels are expected to decrease in the coming days.

Risks:
Higher than normal water levels may cause nuisance flooding in low-lying areas. Additionally, ice thickness can change drastically due to flows.

Conservation Authority Offering Subsidized Trees until March

It’s not too early to start planning your property beautification projects for this spring! Residents from across South Nation Conservation’s (SNC) 4,384 square-kilometer jurisdiction in Eastern Ontario can still take advantage of ordering over-the-counter trees directly from the Conservation Authority at a subsidized cost until March 1, 2020.

SNC Accepting Applications to Community Environmental Grants Program

Are you planning an environmental project or outdoor recreational event in your community this year? South Nation Conservation (SNC) is now accepting applications for the 2020 intake of its Community Environmental Grants Program.

Non-profit and community groups may apply to receive a grant of up to $300 to help offset the costs of their local event or activity. The program’s four categories are: River; Heritage; Agri-Environmental; and Community Outreach.

Water levels across the watershed are high for this time of the year. Precipitation gauges across the jurisdiction recorded 40 mm of rain over the weekend.

Risks:
Due to last weekend’s significant rainfall as well as snowmelt, the watershed is experiencing higher than normal water levels.

Rainfall amounts of 15 to 30 mm as well as a mix of ice and snow is forecast to begin Friday evening and will continue into Saturday, January 11, 2020.

Environmental Conditions:
Water levels across the jurisdiction are normal for this time of the year. Soils are frozen and there is an average amount of snow cover across the jurisdiction.

Public Invited to Open Houses on Natural Hazard Mapping in Rural East Ottawa

South Nation Conservation (SNC) invites residents in the City of Ottawa’s rural east end to attend public open houses taking place on January 29th at the Kenmore Community Centre in Kenmore and on January 30th at École élémentaire catholique Saint-Guillaume in Vars to view and comment on new natural hazard maps for their areas.

Updated floodplain and erosion hazard maps were developed for the areas of South Castor River, from Victoria Street to Springhill Road, and Shaw’s Creek, from Perrault Road to Burton Road.
