Drop a Line at 7th SNC Youth Fishing Camp

Beautiful High Falls Conservation Area in Casselman will be the site of South Nation Conservation (SNC) 7th annual free Youth Fishing Day Camp, from July 8-10.

“High Falls along the South Nation River has the look and feel of a classic summer fishing hole,” said SNC Communications Assistant Holly Nyenkamp.

But 10 participants aged 10-15 will have to be on their toes too. Using provided gear, they’ll learn the rules, where to drop a line, selecting equipment, baiting – including fly tying - and casting.

Partnership with City of Ottawa highlights importance of floodplain mapping

South Nation Conservation (SNC) in partnership with the City of Ottawa has been working on updating floodplain mapping since 2012. Floodplain mapping is updated using LIDAR technology and streams are prioritized based on age of mapping, as well as land use and future development. Mapping is an important tool that identifies environmental features such as flood hazard areas to help protect residents and their properties. The maps support development reviews, manage drainage features and are used by City Emergency Services in case of extreme weather events.
