SNC Golf Tournament Raises $6,000 for Maple Syrup Education Program
More than 75 players and 25 sponsors helped South Nation Conservation (SNC) set a new fundraising record at its annual Friends of SNC Golf Tournament, which took place this year on August 9 at Nation Golf Club in Curran. Approximately $6,000 was raised to go towards the Conservation Authority’s new spring Maple Education Program.
“We have to thank everyone who participated, sponsored or donated to the tournament, making it our most successful one yet,” says John Mesman, SNC Team Lead, Communications.
Players were treated to a variety of on-hole games, and many walked away with door prizes courtesy of local businesses including St-Albert Cheese, Beau’s Brewery, and Home Hardware in Crysler. One lucky golfer even managed to win an RBC hole-in-one prize.
“It’s inspiring to see people having a good time in support of a worthy cause,” adds Mesman. “This is one of our favourite fundraising activities and it brings people together, outside.”
SNC suspended its annual Maple Syrup Education Program this year and hopes to return in the spring of 2019 to host students at its recently donated Oschmann Forest in North Dundas, where the funds raised at the golf tournament will help to create accessible trails and demonstration infrastructure. The not-for-profit educational program hosts over 1,000 students a year, providing them with a hands-on and environmental learning experience at a local sugar shack.
“We look forward to continue delivering meaningful environmental education through our Maple Syrup Education Program,” says Mesman. “The funds raised at this golf tournament bring us one step closer to doing so at the Oschmann Forest in the spring.”
