Online Wood Creations Auction to Support SNC’s Tree Planting Programs

01-Oct-2021 01-Oct-2021

South Nation Conservation (SNC) is once again hosting an online fundraising auction this fall to support spring tree planting initiatives across its 4,441 km2 jurisdiction in Eastern Ontario.

Building on the success of last year’s “Art for Trees” auction which raised $6,500 for the Authority's 2021 planting season, “South Nation Wood Creations” will feature dozens of wood ware products such as furniture, displays, art, signs, and charcuterie boards, hand-crafted by talented artisans from across the region.

“The event is a great opportunity to support small businesses and the sustainable forestry industry while also showcasing local talent and contributing to a healthy environment,” said John Mesman, SNC’s Community Lands and Outreach Lead. “We are grateful for everyone’s continued support and partnership of our tree planting programs.”

With the ongoing Pandemic, the Conservation Authority has had to postpone many of its usual fundraising activities and has not been able to support some forestry exhibitions like the popular Wood Auction, hosted in the past in Dunvegan and, more recently, Riceville. The Wood Auction, which formed part of the Annual Wood and Forest Exhibition, hosted by Boisés Est and the SDG Chapter of the Ontario Woodlot Association used to help showcase local woodworking talent and has been on pause during the Pandemic.

Since 1990, SNC has planted more than 3.4 million trees across its watershed jurisdiction thanks to community and municipal partnerships and fundraising. Over 230,000 trees were planted in 2020; but, with your support, SNC is hoping to set a new record in 2022.

Auction items will be available to view online starting October 8th, with silent bidding available October 12th to 29th. For more information and to access the auction website, please visit: www.nation.on.ca/fall-fundraiser
