Elementary students will learn about the role that trees play in our local environment, their importance to the ecosystem, and different native species, through an interactive morning workshop led by SNC staff. Students will then assist SNC staff in the planting of 3 caliper trees around the school's outdoor classroom. This project is supported through the Great Lakes Guardian Community Fund.
Within the past 4 years, Saint-Viateur Catholic Elementary School has created an outdoor classroom and educational space for students on the school's property, consisting of a learning circle and wooden structure accessible to the entire school community. Saint-Viateur is part of EcoSchools, whose mission is to nurture environmental leaders, reduce the ecological impact of schools, and build environmentally responsible school communities.
