2022 SNC Board of Directors and Standing Committee Meeting Dates

18-Feb-2022 02-Mar-2022

There was a passing of the torch at South Nation Conservation’s (SNC) February 2022 Board of Directors meeting.

Allan Hubley, City of Ottawa Councillor (Ward 23 - Kanata South), was appointed and attended his first Board meeting on February 17, 2022.

Mr. Hubley replaces Michael Brown, Public Representative for the City of Ottawa, who announced his employment-related departure from the Board in December 2021. Brown, a practicing real estate lawyer in Eastern Ontario, also served as a Municipal Councillor for the Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley from 2003-2006. He was a dedicated SNC Board member from 2008-2015 and 2018-2021.

“I would like to thank Michael Brown for his years of contribution to SNC. He brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role on the board which has been invaluable. His positive contribution will be sadly missed by the organization, and I wish him well in his new endeavours,” said George Darouze, SNC Board Chair and Deputy Mayor and Councillor (Ward 20, Osgoode) for the City of Ottawa. “I am pleased to welcome my colleague Councillor Hubley to the Board, who brings with him many years of experience, both as a Councillor and community advocate to this role.”

Member municipalities within SNC’s watershed jurisdiction appoint representatives to the Board of Directors, who oversee SNC’s budget, programs, and environmental services.

The Conservation Authority’s four volunteer Standing Committees also help review programs and develop recommendations for the Board.

SNC’s environmental stewardship success depends on local, community, partnerships to build strong, sensible programs with broad-based support.

In response to COVID-19, the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks directed Conservation Authorities to amend their administrative by-laws to allow for virtual meetings. For now, Board and Committee meetings continue to be held remotely with plans to return to in-person meetings soon.

Area residents interested in Committee vacancies can contact SNC info@nation.on.ca. More information at: www.nation.on.ca/about/board-directors-and-committees.
