Applicants Sought to Attend Youth Summit for Biodiversity

South Nation Conservation (SNC) is pleased to partner with Ontario Nature for their 2017 Youth Summit for Biodiversity and Leadership this fall! The summit will take place September 22-24 at the YMCA Geneva Park in Orillia, ON.

As part of this partnership, SNC plans to sponsor a youth leader to attend the conference.

“We invite youth to write a letter explaining local environmental issues within their community” said Holly Nyenkamp, SNC’s Communications and Outreach Assistant. “We would also like to know what participants hope to gain from the Summit.”

The Summit welcomes youth aged 14-19 from across the province and features interactive workshops on sustainability, nature exploration and climate action. Participants gain access to a growing network of young environmental leaders and the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded thinkers.

“We’re excited to work with a local youth to provide them with opportunities to gain a better understanding of environmental issues and insights into sound, sustainable practices” added Nyenkamp.

SNC’s sponsorship covers the cost of workshops, accommodations and meals. Ontario Nature staff and volunteers provide supervision during the weekend-long Summit.

Letters of intent are to be submitted to SNC no later than September 6, 2017. A scanned copy of the letter should be emailed to hnyenkamp@nation.on.ca, or the original can be mailed to Holly Nyenkamp, South Nation Conservation, 38 Victoria Street Finch, ON, K0C 1K0.

SNC strives to provide local youth with the education and tools needed to empower environmental leadership in their own communities. Visit www.nation.on.ca to learn more about SNC’s portfolio of educational programs.
