SNC and City of Ottawa Launch Ash Tree Replacement Pilot Program
South Nation Conservation (SNC) and the City of Ottawa have partnered to launch the Ash Tree Replacement Pilot Program to assist City of Ottawa residents affected by the invasive Emerald Ash Borer (EAB).
Landowners may be eligible to receive up to $500 in cost-share funding towards the removal and replacement of an infected ash tree on their property, up to a maximum of $5,000 per landowner (10 trees). Funding is limited to a first-come, first-serve basis.
Interested applicants must be property owners in the City of Ottawa. An International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certified Arborist or Registered Professional Forester must confirm the tree’s infection and must perform all work related to its removal and replacement.
Residents may choose their replacement trees so long as they are native species of either potted stock or caliper-sized, and they must be planted on private property.
The Emerald Ash Borer is a beetle native to Asia that feeds on ash trees. According to Natural Resources Canada, it was first detected in North America in 2002, and has since killed millions of ash trees as it continues to spread into new areas.
