SNC Accepting Tree Orders for 2017
With fall upon us, it’s time to plan your yard beautification projects for next year. South Nation Conservation (SNC) is now accepting tree orders for 2017.
Through SNC, property owners can purchase a selection of seedlings and more mature trees to beautify their properties and at the same time enhance wildlife habitat, provide shade, and help reduce erosion.
“Last year we planted an impressive 148,000 seedlings in Eastern Ontario. Private landowners, municipalities, and various organizations have benefited from our increasingly popular program,” says Cheyene Ramsey, SNC’s Forestry Technician.
Ramsey urges residents to learn more about the different forestry programs available to landowners. “There is something for everyone – we can suggest management options for larger woodlots, coordinate tree planting on your 2.5+ acres, and sell over-the-counter trees.”
Tree planting is a common theme at SNC when planning site rehabilitation projects. Thanks to funding from the City of Ottawa Water Environment Strategy, SNC and volunteers recently planted 300 trees along the North Castor River as part of a watercourse rehabilitation project. The treed area along the River, known as the ‘Riparian Zone’, will provide habitat for wildlife, shade for fish, reduce erosion, among many other benefits.
Over the past 27 years, SNC in partnership with landowners, municipalities and other organizations have planted over 2.8 million trees, helping support forest cover in the region.
