SNC RAISING FUNDS TO MAKE PARKS MORE ACCESSIBLE

11-Jul-2014 22-Jul-2014

After several years of hosting its own summer golf tournament, South Nation Conservation has altered course for 2014.

For the first time, SNC is partnering in the 3rd annual Rural Family Connections Golf Tournament to be held at Metcalfe Golf and Country Club Aug. 13. Tee-off is at 1:15 p.m.; cost is $100 per golfer for 18 holes, including power cart, dinner and silent auction.

“It’s the best approach for the times,” said Ronda Boutz, SNC Team Lead, Communications and Outreach. “Organizing a major golf tournament takes up a lot of scarce resources. Sharing the load allows us to stay in the game.”

SNC’s partnering with the Live and Learn Resource Centre, based in Metcalfe, that provides playgroups and other services to young families living in rural south Ottawa. The partners will share net profits from the tournament.

“Live and Learn is a great cause and the SNC goal is to improve accessibility for the disabled at Jessup’s Falls Conservation Area, another great cause,” Boutz observed. “Tournament supporters can’t go wrong.”

Event chairman is Osgoode Councillor Doug Thompson, a member of the SNC board of directors. Thompson is also part of the SNC Communications Committee where the topic of a 2014 golf tournament first came up.

“We were weighing the pros and cons in light of the organizational effort required,” Boutz recalled. “That’s when Doug suggested joining SNC with Live and Learn.”

Tournament organizers are seeking hole sponsors at $750 (Platinum), $500 (Gold), $300 (Silver) and $100 (Bronze).  A $10,000 hole-in-one prize is being offered by Royal Bank of Canada.

To register and/or sponsor through SNC, contact Ben Lawrence, 877-984-2948, ext. 252, blawrence@nation.on.ca.

Boutz emphasized that all those involved hope 2014 will mark the beginning of a long-term relationship between the organizing groups.
