Your Fish and Wildlife
The South Nation Watershed is a richly diverse collection of streams, rivers and wetlands which all have a direct impact on the quality of our fish and fauna. Our role at South Nation Conservation is to work with the community to study, protect and inform about our local fisheries and wetland wildlife, while understanding the impact we have on it and it has on us.
Water quality and fish populations are inter-related. Without good water quality, fish are unable to survive. The South Nation River watershed sustains a vigorous fishery that lures many anglers seeking the thrill of the catch for several warm-water species, including pike, walleye, muskie, catfish, carp and other pan fish.

Wetlands act as enormous sponges that control water flows and improve water quality. They store water when it is plentiful and release it in time of drought. They improve the quality of water by filtering water supplies, and they provide diverse wildlife habitat. Natural areas, such as forests, wetlands, migration sites and areas of significant scientific interest must also be studied and protected to preserve the rich complexity and the health of the watershed.
With active communication with the Ministry of Natural Resources, local stakeholders, municipalities and residents we are able to study and manage the local fish and fauna while taking a community approach to habitat protection.
