A recent mishap in Upton, Quebec, prompts South Nation Conservation to issue this reminder. A six year old boy, playing with friends, slipped and was swept away into a fast flowing river east of Montreal. This is an absolutely tragic event for any family to endure.
Water levels are currently normal in the South Nation River watershed; however, thin ice is beginning to form and streambanks are slippery. South Nation Conservation (SNC) cautions residents along watercourses to be aware of these hazards and encourages parents to keep a close eye on their children over the holidays. SNC will be monitoring weather forecasts and daily water levels and will issue advisories and warnings, as required. See http://watershedconditions.com for the current water levels throughout the watershed.
Staff of the Conservation Authority wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.
