SNC TO SHOWCASE AGRICULTURAL, RURAL PROGRAMS AT 84TH OVFS
March 7, 2011
South Nation Conservation will join 370 exhibitors at the 84th Ottawa Valley Farm Show, using the opportunity to showcase its environmental services and grant programs available to the Eastern Ontario agricultural and rural community.
SNC will occupy combined booths 86 (a) and 87 in the main Exhibit Hall at the Farm Show which takes place March 15-17 at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa. The show opens at 9 am each morning; it closes at 5 pm, March 15; 8 pm, March 16; and 4 pm, March 17.
While SNC services are reserved for residents of its 4,000 square-km watershed, information provided will be of interest to all of those attending the show, SNC communications director Angela Coleman emphasized.
“Farmers are important partners in improving and maintaining our local environment,” Coleman said. “As most Eastern Ontario farm families attend the show, it’s an ideal venue at which to connect with them.”
As an example of a valuable program now offered by SNC, Coleman cited the free Woodlot Advisory Service intended to help property owners gain a better understanding of the value of their forested acreage and what best management practices to apply.
She underlined the fact the OVFS occurs during March Break and many parents take their children along for the ride: “Just as the Farm Show organization reaches out to the young farmers of tomorrow, so do we at SNC with many of our educational programs.”
In addition to displays of farm machinery, equipment, seed, and various technical services, the OVFS is used by many organizations such as SNC to get their message across to the rural market.
“We’re pleased that SNC will be with us once again,” said OVFS manager Tom Van Dusen. “The agency brings another important element to the lineup of useful, educational information available at the show.”
