Property Inquiry Service

The Property Inquiry Service has been provided by the SNC for many years. Due to the increased volume of inquiries over the last few years and the information required to conduct a review, the SNC has focused its inquiry service on written requests and providing formal, signed, written responses.

The service provides environmental information about a specific location that will aid in the making of decisions when deciding on a large investment, such as a property purchase. Any representative or landowner is strongly encouraged to complete a property inquiry if the property is within or adjacent to any natural hazard or natural heritage feature.

Formal requests must be made in writing to SNC by submitting the following:

  • A complete property inquiry form (see Forms and Fees);
  • Location information, such as municipal street address, legal address (lot and concession), municipality, and former municipality;
  • A legal plan or survey, or a site plan of proposed work;
  • Location map of all existing and proposed features on property, such as watercourses, buildings, wells, septic systems etc.
  • A key map showing the location of the property in relation to major intersections;
  • A cover page describing in detail your proposed project and/or use of land.
  • Any additional information requested;
  • The appropriate fee (see Forms and Fees).

Please be advised that SNC requires two weeks following receipt of a written request and payment for the Authority to review and provide comments.

Upon completion of the review, SNC will provide the applicant with a letter outlining all of features which have been identified, in addition to the applicable setbacks and appropriate reports required. This letter provides a formal record of the inquiry and provides valuable information to the client when making land use decisions for the site. Please call SNC if you have any questions, or need assistance in filling out the Property Inquiry form.
